Monocular view

Monocular view

In the case of monocular vision, one eye is used for distance and one for reading. One eye, usually the dominant one, has a visual acuity of 20/20. The other eye is shortsighted and is used to read.

Monocular view – Video Presentation

Monocular vision is a compromise that decreases the capacity to estimate the distance compared to the binocular vision. Close vision is not nearly as good as when using reading glasses, when both eyes are used to read. The advantage is that you are not dependent to reading glasses in order to see up close. A relevant comparison is that in which one eye acts as a monocle (except that the “monocle” can not be removed).

In situations where you need an excellent view, you can use a pair of glasses for close or distance vision. Many people in this situation enjoy the freedom to not wear glasses and feel like they recovered the vision of their first youth.

IMPORTANT: Monocular vision affects the distance vision, which can prevent you from fulfilling the requirements for obtaining a driving licence.

Monocular vision testing for treatment.

Familiarity with the monocular vision depends greatly from case to case and may take weeks to fully accommodate with the new combination. It is not easy for anyone to adjust to the situation in which one eye has blurred vision at distance. Unlike contact lenses, which can be waived, refractive surgery is generally irreversible. Therefore, we recommend you to try this combination by using contact lenses prescribed by an ophthalmologist, before resorting to surgery.
